Faith and Favor
The faith and Favor system is meant to represent a characters level
of devotion to the gods. It is designed so that if a character is a decent
role-player, and sticks to his ethos, there are no consequences, and the
character would maintain the mean level of faith, by virtue of his character
class. However, if major transgressions are made, the character could
suffer some consequences, as well as receive major rewards for great deeds.
The character should be able to sacrifice levels of faith for a little
extra help, however, if he hasn’t done anything remarkable in the
recent past, he will be expected to make it up.
Faith levels are reserved for Olindian Worshipers, and represent the
level of conviction of belief in the orderly structure of Olindian dogma.
Favor is reserved for Followers of the Chaotic Pantheons and represents
the degree to which the gods recognize the usefulness and devotion of
the subject. Higher favor means more access to the different entities
power. Druids have yet another system that will be discussed last.
Faith
There are three states that a characters faith level can reside in. They
are: Atonement Faith, Pious faith, and exalted faith.
Atonement faith:
When a characters faith level falls below his maximum spell level, due
to a baneful act or spend faith level, or Indulgences, he is considered
to be in Atonement faith, weather he wishes to atone or not. The character
may not cast spells level greater than his faith level until he atones.
Atonement:
A character may raise his faith level and so atone, in one of two ways.
First by completing a number of atonement deeds equal to the level he
wishes to increase to, ie, if a cleric has 3 faith points and wishes to
increase to 4, he must complete 4 atonement deeds. Second; the character
can devote a number of weeks equal to the level of faith attained, doing
devotional work according to his path, in which he may not adventure,
take contracts, missions, or any special projects such as magic item creation.
The character is considered to be at the specified location completing
his atonement, for the duration. The time must be spent in one stretch,
and may not be split up into smaller segments. If a character is pulled
away from his duties mid atonement, the time is not counted, and he must
start over. The cleric looses access to one domain per level of faith
lost below pious faith -1. Ex, if a characters pious faith level is 5,
he looses access to his first domain at 3, and second at 2, and 3rd if
applicable at 1 faith point. The domain lost is determined by his deeds,
and indulgences.
Pious Faith
A character must maintain a certain code or ethos and is assumed to be
of pious faith if he does so in a reasonable manner. A character receives
a level of faith automatically at each odd level and her pious faith level
is increased by one as long as he or she maintains his or her ethos. A
cleric may maintain status quo by maintaining standards of conduct and
indulges no faith points.
Exalted faith
A Cleric of exceptional deed and faith may transcend pious faith and
become exalted. A character can gain an extra faith level by doing great
deeds. Once gained the character immediately gains the benefits of exalted
faith according to his path and domain. Unlike pious faith levels, exalted
faith levels may be indulged to produce spells of greater level than the
character is currently able to cast as well as exalted miracles. Once
exalted faith levels are indulged they are expended.
